The Via Francigena, the ancient pilgrims' path from Canterbury to Rome, passes just outside Orentano: stage 29 (Altopascio – San Miniato, approximately 29 km) crosses Galleno, the neighbouring village, where you can still walk on a section of original medieval paving.

From Orentano, you can reach the route in a few minutes and get a taste of it even without being a pilgrim: the section with Galleno's paving and the Cerbaie woods make for a lovely half-day walk. Those who want more can follow the stage towards Ponte a Cappiano, with its restored Medici bridge, and continue to Fucecchio and San Miniato.

The route is marked with the classic white and red signage of the Francigena. Comfortable shoes, water in summer, and you're all set.
