Market day and local produce in Orentano

Market day: Saturday morning

Orentano has its own small weekly market every Saturday morning in the central Piazza Roma — a handful of stalls, the village out doing its shopping, and the right amount of chatter. It is small and it is exactly the point: come mid-morning, bring cash, and say buongiorno.

Larger markets run in the bigger towns nearby on other days of the week — ask your host which one falls during your stay.

In the village

Orentano also has its own bakery, grocery and food shops clustered around the centre — see Eat & Drink for who is open right now. A fresh loaf from a wood-fired oven and whatever vegetables are in season is the correct village breakfast strategy.

Farm produce

The countryside around the village produces olive oil, wine, honey and seasonal vegetables, and several farms sell directly. The Eat & Drink page lists local producers; buying from the source is normal here — knock, say buongiorno, and ask.
